Washburn University
Prayer Walk

We invite you to join us on Saturday, August 20th as we pray for the Washburn campus and community at the beginning of another school year.

 

Meet us at 17th and Boswell in front of Morgan Hall at 10am to get a prayer map of the campus. You will have the next hour to walk the campus and pray (or drive through the campus and pray) for the 6000 students who will call Washburn home this year.

Join us in prayer for the people who will soon be on Washburn’s campus. Above is a map of the route for the prayer walk. We have also included scripture and specific points to pray for over each area. But this time is between you and the Lord so feel free to pray for whatever God has placed on your heart regarding the students at Washburn.

 

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. -1 Corinthians 5:14

Prayer Passage

“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:6-7

 

Prayer Points 
  • Pray that anxiety will not overcome the administrators that work at Washburn.

  • That administrators will come to know Jesus and make decisions for our campus with Christ in the center.

  • That the students that are in the science building will come to know the Lord.

  • That the science students that are already believers will lean into Christ in their hard times this semester and be bold to their peers.

  • For the professors to be kind, patient and understanding

Prayer Passage

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. -Ephesians 3:14-19

Prayer Points:
  • That many more students would be strengthened by the Spirit and have Christ dwell in their hearts through faith

  • That incoming freshmen would not leave the faith but embrace understand more fully who Christ is and the grace He offers

  • For good relationships to be made in within the dorm/fraternity house

  • For students in Petro pursuing health care degrees to have a heart serve others as Christ served us

  • For law students to take a stand for the truth of the gospel even when it goes against the culture

And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. -1 Peter 5:10

Prayer Points:
  • That God’s grace would be made known to the athletes, coaches, and fans

  • That the athletes and coaches would find their strength by turning to Christ

  • That the believers on the sports teams and in the art classes would have boldness and confidence in God to remain faithful to Him even during times of suffering

  • That God would use the art classes to change the hearts of those who have not found salvation in Him

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Prayer Points
  • That God would send laborers into each house.

  • That God would soften the hearts of other students toward students in Greek Life

  • That believers in the houses can be confident in sharing their faith

  • That the members of the Greek organizations can center their focus on the Lord and not on what the world says it means to be in a sorority or fraternity

  • That God would continue to move through the people that he has placed in each house

  • That members in the houses can love each other well and that the houses can be a safe place and a place of rest

  • That God would move to create a culture of prayer in the Greek organizations.

Prayer Points
  • God desires every tribe tongue and nation

  • Pray for international students to find and bond with American believers who can help disciple them

  • Place a desire for the international students on the hearts of Christian students that they would see the need to minister and go all in

Prayer Passage

But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. -1 Corinthians 15:57-58

Prayer Points
  • That God would comfort any students struggling with anxiety or stress as the semester starts

  • That God would provide community for new students

  • That students already following Christ would have the boldness and confidence to share the gospel

  • That God would use classes in Garvey, the LLC, and Morgan and common spaces inside and outside the Union as opportunities for conversation and building friendships with non-believers

  • That God would soften the hearts of the students, staff, and faculty and that they would come to know Christ

  • That God would help students be productive and learn in their classes

  • That the music students in Garvey would stay encouraged through difficult classes and that students would be bold in sharing their faith
